Sam Rayburn Fishing Report August 2004

Bass Fishing Reports Lunker writes "
Fishing Report The bass fishing has been poor to good. If your in the right spot during the right 30 min. it could be good but if your not, then it can plain stink. Yesterday we started on a main lake point that I had checked a couple of days prior. In checking it I caught fish on a Lucky Craft gunfish 95 (topwater) and a Lucky Craft CBDR (crankbait)both in american shad. It was pretty easy so I decided to start there yesterday. I had topwater baits rigged up for both my clients. The lady had a nice one blow up on her topwater on the second cast, pull drag, and then pull off. A few cast later she has another fish blow up and and miss it. Then her husband had a big one blow up on his right at the boat but didn't take it. The the wife has another miss hers. What frustration. I then rigged them with crankbaits and the lady looses one on that. This just was not our morning. On our second stop we caught a 15" fish on the Lucky Craft CBDR in american shad. No fish at the next 2 stops, then finally another keeper on a redbug worm around some shallow hydrilla. So far it had been cloudy with the wind blowing about 8-9mph. I decided to get on a windy bank with some shallow hydrilla. I tied a black buzzbait on the ladies rod. Within a few cast whe catches a 3# fish, then looses a 2 1/2# fish, I catch a small keeper on a spinnerbait and miss 2 more. All this happened in about 15 -20min. and then the sun came out. They would not hit once the sun was out, it appeared we found the fish and the pattern just a little to late. We talked to some others who had been fishing deep but those fish did not bite well either. The water is still stained to dirty due to the rains. The fish will school if the wind lays down but that has not happened much in the last week. I still have a few openings in Sept. and several in October if you want to book a trip. Email me for more information or for open days. Those months are usually excellent times to be on Rayburn. Good luck.
